Data-Informed Decision Making

Community engagement professionals who are highly proficient in the collection and analysis of data can help make more informed decisions to positively impact their immediate work environments and the MIT community.

ICEO data proficiency workshops, done in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research, are designed to equip ICEO-affiliated practitioners with the skills to navigate the Institute’s data landscape confidently. These workshops focus on building staff competencies to critically analyze, interpret, and apply data. The workshops support practitioners who set goals, measure changes, and improve outcomes.

Topics include:

  • Interpretation for transforming findings into actionable insights
  • Data collection and analytical tools
  • Developing foundational skills for assessing initiatives, programs, and practices

Fostering a culture of data proficiency builds stronger organizations. Decisions supported by reliable data and analysis enhance initiatives for students, staff, and faculty. They inform practical interventions to improve equitable organizational policies and practices. They improve resource allocation. And they increase day-to-day operational efficiencies. Academic, research, and administrative units that integrate data-informed strategies are better positioned to meet their goals, assess their own effectiveness, and demonstrate accountability. Increased data proficiency also ensures that programming and new initiatives are grounded in evidence.
