Brazilian Arts Initiative at MIT
BR@MIT proposes cultural courses and a celebration to engage MIT with Brazilian music, dance, and traditions. BatucadaMIT will offer a pandeiro course, ForróMIT will teach Brazilian partner dance, and both will culminate in a Festa Junina inspired event.
Eid Al-Fitr
The Eid Carnival is a vibrant celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, bringing the MIT community together for a day of cultural immersion and joy. Starting with the Islamic prayer and a speech, the event features cultural booths, food, music, henna, art, games, and a festive atmosphere on Kresge Lawn.
GFLI End-of-Year Graduation Banquet
The GFLI Graduation Banquet is a special celebration recognizing the resilience and achievements of graduating master’s and Ph.D. students who identify as first-generation or come from low-income backgrounds.
Roots to Rise
An overnight retreat for MIT undergraduate and graduate student survivors of sexual violence. This retreat will give students an opportunity to step away from their daily routines and engage in workshops, group activities, and expressive arts intended to promote community, reflection, and growth among survivors.
Rural Futures Summit
This summit will bring together rural planners, designers, practitioners, and governmental leaders to share the exciting planning initiatives taking place in rural communities. Speakers are invited to present on the theme of “Rural Futures,”—a challenge to create new narratives for rural and highlight local innovation in planning, economic development, and design.
Spectrum: An MIT Drag Show and Panel
Serving as an opportunity for LGBTQIA+ and allies, the MIT community celebrates visibility through a drag performance—an art form which developed as a form of historical resistance against discrimination, prejudice, and oppression.
