ICEO Grant Awardees The ICEO is proud to support initiatives that foster and sustain a vibrant and inclusive community at MIT. Aligned with the Institute’s core values and the strategic priorities of belonging, achievement, and composition, our grants empower community members to bring their innovative ideas to life and explore new ways of building connections across campus. Fall 2024 AI, Health Equity, and Ethics SymposiumA symposium centered on epistemic humility as a key to addressing biases and inequities. Through keynotes, workshops, and collaborative discussions, it emphasizes the need for diverse perspectives, community involvement, and ethical frameworks to ensure AI fosters health equity and avoids reinforcing structural inequities. A Celebration of African Humor and Heritage: ASA Cultural Night 2025Cultural Night 2025 will showcase Africa’s joy, resilience, and creativity. Featuring traditional African games, music, and storytelling, as well as live comedy, and a keynote by Nigerian chess prodigy Tunde Onakoya, the event aims to transcend borders to foster cultural understanding and meaningful connection. Awa and Talanoa: Nurturing Purposeful Pilina (Belonging), Hana Lawelawe (Achievement) and Kaiāulu (Composition) through Pasifika CeremonyDr. Lelemia Irvine and Dr. Lea Kinikini are coming to MIT for an ʻawa and talanoa ceremony that celebrates Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) cultural practices and promotes decolonial Indigenous scholarship. Hosted by NAIA, IS4J, and Indigenous Spirit at MIT, the event will uplift NHPI culture, provide mentorship to Indigenous students, and foster dialogue to strengthen MIT’s commitment to improving NHPI representation in its student body. BringToFront_BringToFront_ is a bi-weekly gathering in the MIT Architecture community, offering informal sessions for sharing expertise, interests, and skills within the architecture community. Held in the Long Lounge, these meetings foster conversation, brainstorming, and community-building through reflection, food, and collaborative planning. Crafting in Community with MIT Alum, Jen GouldstoneJoin MIT alum Jen Gouldstone of Craft Loft for an evening of creativity, connection, and inspiration as she shares her non-linear career journey and guides a fun crafting activity. Hosted by MIT’s Career Advising & Professional Development event offers a chance to network, de-stress, and explore expansive career possibilities, open to undergraduates, graduate students, and postdocs. Infinite LaunchInfinite Magazine’s year-end event, Infinite Launch, celebrates the creative efforts of its members and showcases their work to the MIT and greater Boston communities. This year’s event, themed around “disobedience,” will feature workshops, booths, live music, and food, aiming to connect diverse artistic voices and expand the impact of fashion and the arts beyond campus. Lunar BanquetThe Chinese Students Club’s annual capstone event celebrating the Lunar New Year, the Lunar Banquet brings together the community with performances, activities, food, and raffles. It highlights Chinese culture, fostering connection and celebration through cultural performances and festivities. Poetry Slam with Ammar AlshukryAfrican poet and Islamic thinker Ammar Alshikry aims to foster community building and spirituality. All members of the MIT community are invited. Soft City: Storytelling and SpaceIn conjunction with the “Soft City” exhibition at the MIT Museum, a panel discussion will explore placemaking and design in Cambridge and Boston. The exhibition, created by MIT alumni Amanda Ugorji and Sophie Weston Chien, highlights the intersection of race and climate change through tactile tapestries that map Black neighborhoods in greater Boston, shedding light on their history and resilience, as well as more current social and environmental justice issues. Yoga for High PerformersYoga for High Performers is a program for MIT students, faculty, and staff designed to help combat burnout and promote well-being. Led by yoga instructor Taryn Burns, it includes a workshop on managing performance and energy, followed by a yoga class focused on recentering through movement, breath, and meditation.
